A Three Day Post-Vacation Detox

I am in the midst of my conference season.  Almost every weekend this month I am in a different city attending food allergy and food intolerance conferences or blog marketing conferences, and I can tell you... girl gets tired.

Due to my awesome hormonal imbalances, having to eat too many grains while traveling and being on my feet for 12+ hours all weekend, I am feeling run down and exhausted.  It's important, that whether you are traveling often, overworked, or just stressed in general (and who doesn't have some of that going on, like, always?) to detox and reset for healing.

Instead of telling you to drink green juice for days, (and that totally can be beneficial) this post is more about a full reset. A gentle, mind and body, head to toe, routine to implement for just three days to see how you feel*. Many of these steps I incorporate regularly to help me feel happier, healthier and more balanced overall.

It also helps if you detox digitally as well.  If you're unable to completely leave your phone and computer, at least check them minimally, and shut all devices off at least one hour before going to sleep.

Day One

- When you awake don't pop out of bed. Enjoy the sunlight washing over you. Wiggle your toes, wiggle your fingers. Be aware of the moment. Stretch.

- Upon waking, do deep breathing for two minutes to charge you for the day.  In through your nose and out through your mouth.  This will wake up your senses.

- Sip a mug of warm lemon water, while you make breakfast. This helps to flush your system and start the detoxification process.  For breakfast, sip an anti-inflammatory shake to help heal and reverse the last few days. Go easy on the fruit, as you want to minimize sugar and try a smoothie with greens.

- Do a 30 minute light yoga routine to encourage everything to keep moving, and stretch your muscles.

- Before showering, use a dry brush on your skin to keep your lymph system moving. I use this one.  Brush in a circular motion and always brush towards your heart.

- Eat a handful of almonds or pumpkin seeds to calm any cravings before lunch as you go about your day.  Try to add in a 10 minute meditation of just sitting in the quiet, praying or reading.

- For lunch try a salad packed with greens, a kale and spinach salad tossed with a healthy fat such as fresh avocado or olive oil. A salad pairs well with a bowl of butternut squash or roasted carrot soup for added veggies.

- After lunch, take a brisk 30 minute walk, if you are working today, make sure to walk as much as possible.  Park farther away, have your meetings while walking, or take a walk on your lunch break.  Careful not to do any strenuous exercise during the detox, as it is hard on your system when it is trying to cleanse.

- Carve out time in your day to play with your kids, or fur babies, unplugged.  Or go to a shelter and volunteer to play with their pups. They need love too, and playing with littles and animals uninterrupted has been proven to lower blood pressure.

- For dinner enjoy a high quality veggie burger patty on lettuce with fresh pineapple and a drizzle of gluten-free soy sauce.

- For dessert, sip your favorite detox tea today.

- Aim to get 9-10 hours of sleep when rebooting.

Day Two

Try a different mix than yesterday.

- Try rebounding for 10-20 minutes today.  Using a small trampoline (you can pick one up for around $30 at Walmart or Target) bounce lightly to encourage more detoxification of the lymph system.  If you are unable to obtain a rebounder, do yesterdays yoga session again.

- Before showering, use a dry brush on your skin to keep your lymph system moving. I use this one.  Brush in a circular motion and always brush towards your heart.

- For a mid-morning snack munch on fresh berries with a side of coconut milk yogurt for the probiotic benefits.

- For lunch enjoy fresh cut tomato slices topped with basil leaves and caramelized onion for a bit of sweetness. Munch on an orange for an after lunch dessert.

- Schedule a massage today.  A relaxing swedish massage will help to calm your mind, and has been proven to lessen the symptoms of anxiety and depression and is also very detoxifying.

- For dinner enjoy a hearty bowl of zucchini noodles or spaghetti squash topped with organic marinara and pair it with a glass of sulphite-free wine or sparkling water.

- For dessert, enjoy 1 square of organic, dairy-free dark chocolate and a good book.

- Aim to get 9-10 hours of sleep when rebooting.

Day Three

- When you awake don't pop out of bed. Enjoy the sunlight washing over you. Wiggle your toes, wiggle your fingers. Be aware of the moment. Stretch.

- Upon waking, do deep breathing for two minutes to charge you for the day.  In through your nose and out through your mouth.  This will wake up your senses.

- Sip a mug of warm lemon water, while you make breakfast. This helps to flush your system and start the detoxification process.  This morning, start with something more substantial.  A vegetable stir fry accompanied by a sweet potato drizzled with a little raw honey is filling and packed with antioxidants and nutrients.

- After this mornings heavier breakfast, go for a short walk.  Clear your mind and take in the beauty of nature.

- Before showering, use a dry brush on your skin to keep your lymph system moving. I use this one.  Brush in a circular motion and always brush towards your heart.

- For a mid-morning snack sip on a vegetable juice made with fresh organic vegetables.

- For lunch, have a piece of Omega-3 packed salmon on a bed of greens drizzled with sea salt and olive oil.

- After lunch, take a few minutes to do a hobby you really enjoy. Whether it be sewing, reading, or playing on Pinterest, take some time to disconnect from the day and reboot.

- De-cluttering can be very liberating and detoxifying to our minds, tackle a drawer or closet you've been meaning to clean out and organize while you listen to jazz or other genre of music you most enjoy.

- For dinner tonight, have a loaded veggie bowl.  Start with black beans and add the toppings of your choice. Ideas include: avocado, snap peas, cherry tomatoes, zucchini, cucumber, nuts or seeds for crunch, and sweet potato.  Drizzle with a dairy-free ranch or healthy oil.

- For dessert, skip the sweets and ask your sweet for some sugar ;) Bonding and sex is also healthy to our mind, bodies and soul.

- Aim to get 9-10 hours of sleep while rebooting.

about

Nosh & Nurture was born of this journey I am on to better the health of myself, my family and those around me.  What started as a simple compilation of recipes has grown to a all-around lifestyle journal with ways to incorporate organic products into your home, pantry and beauty cabinet.  I also include stories on pregnancy, new motherhood, travel, Proverbs 31 marriage, and spiritual health, as I am a Christian who couldn't do any of this without my Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. For more of my story you can click here.

All recipes are gluten-free and dairy-free with a lot of soy-free, grain-free, sugar-free options.
