My Nurturing Nighttime Routine

11/23/2015

When I was younger my nighttime routine was anything but structured.

I washed my face, only if I didn't hit the pillow and doze off first, (much to my sister's, a make-up artist) chagrin). I didn't have any favorite products aside from the normal chemical-laden teen face washes some believe to be "beneficial" to our skin. In reality, these products strip our skin of what they need and can cause nasty long-term effects such as cancer, hormone disruption and more. I also would doze off thinking of a million things I needed to do the next day and would sometimes snack while falling asleep to T.V. A routine that doesn't feel so pretty anymore. And one I'm not proud to recount.

I now take great care in my nighttime and morning routines, and its so much more about balance than it is simply about products.

However, I've learned, now that I'm no longer a "young adult", that product, when chosen correctly, can be the best investment for the health of my skin. And, finding products that are free of toxic chemicals, GMOs, gluten and more, are also a good investment in my health overall.

I am so thankful to Derma E (get a coupon here!) for sponsoring this post and sending me their Hydrating Night Creme. I am a HUGE fan of their products, I use their eye cream, hair & nail oil and lotion on the regular, so when I reached out asking them if they had something that could help my skin overnight as the weather started to dry out and as I started traveling to various climates for often, they hooked me up with this amazing little pot of beautifying and replenishing goodness. You can find their affordable, vegan and healthy skincare line at most Walgreen's.

Below is my Nighttime Routine that I live by to nurture my skin, my body and my mind, ensuring a restful slumber.

My Nurturing Nighttime Routine

  • No Noshing - If I turn in at 10, I eat dinner or dessert no later than 8pm.
  • Dress The Part - I take a shower at night. To wash off the day, wash my face, soothe my muscles and relax me. I slip into something cute or pretty too! I love pretty camisoles and comfy sweats.
  • Hydrate - This is a two-part process. First, I drink a bottle of water about an hour prior to sleep to hydrate, and allow myself time to use the restroom before sleep. And I also hydrate my skin through the night with Derma E's Hydrating Night Creme, paired with their eye cream. My face feels so supple and soft in the mornings and my eyes look and feel brighter.
  • Journal - While I start my mornings with my devotionals, I journal positivity before bed. It's a nice way to bookend the day with intentional prayer and thinking.
  • Plan - So that I don't spend the night tossing, turning and thinking, I put all of my weeks plans down in my planner every Sunday night before bed. That way I can be well rested for the week ahead, knowing I got out on paper everything I need to get done.

I would love to know your nighttime routine, and your favorite products as well!  Again, a coupon for you to try Derma E's skincare for $2 off! Fall & Winter is a time that we all should be giving our skin extra loving care and hydration!

I have some bad habits for my night time routine. We watch TV until real late, sometimes we dose off doing that, and I don't end up washing my face! Bad! Your nighttime routine sounds so relaxing. I think mine needs a revamp!

I apologize for the delay in comment answering! My morning sickness took me down for a few months and I took a blog vacay and playing major catch up this month! ;)

My (little) sister used to always yell at me for not washing my face before bed and it stuck haha. She's now a makeup artist, so I guess it all made sense haha

I'm the same way with planning. If I don't plan out the next day I will spend hours tossing and turning thinking about things I have to do. I like the idea of doing a journal at night too. Nice post!

This is a great night time routine! I started showering at night because I've found that it's a great way to unwind at the end of the day. I've been using Bosca products right now on my skin and the results have been amazing; my pores have basically vanished! I always have to write down my to-do list so my mind can be quiet before I go to bed

Thanks Chelsie! I totally shower at night too! Washes off the day, outdoor allergens and allows me to relax too!

I've been sooo tempted to try the derma-e microdermabrasion scrub but I'm so fearful I'll break out. My skin is so sensitive -__-

I have SUPER sensitive skin and this has been light enough for me. Maybe start with an eye cream or wash, instead of a full face cream to see how you do!

about

Nosh & Nurture was born of this journey I am on to better the health of myself, my family and those around me.  What started as a simple compilation of recipes has grown to a all-around lifestyle journal with ways to incorporate organic products into your home, pantry and beauty cabinet.  I also include stories on pregnancy, new motherhood, travel, Proverbs 31 marriage, and spiritual health, as I am a Christian who couldn't do any of this without my Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. For more of my story you can click here.

All recipes are gluten-free and dairy-free with a lot of soy-free, grain-free, sugar-free options.
