My Beauty Routine: Body & Teeth

Natural Beauty Routine | Nosh and Nurture

BODY CARE

When it comes to body care, being chemical free is number one, followed by products that are going to keep my skin hydrated and ultra-soft.

1.) I start by dry brushing before every other shower. You can do it every time, but I opt for every other because my skin is quite sensitive. Using a dry brush, use straight, swift motions or circular motions, always brushing away from your heart.

2.) I exfoliate with a natural lavender sugar scrub from my local farmers market in warm water. You can get one at Trader Joe's as well.

3.) I wash with the Honest Co. Bar Soap (In Tangerine Vanilla or Lavender) from head to toe, it smells SO heavenly and its chemical-free and gentle. I even use the body wash on my pup!
A lot of people ask me about my beauty routine. Since I use all natural products from head to toe (it's not just what I put IN my body that's important) people are curious as to how my beauty routines differ from theirs.

So, I decided to do a short series that will start with my Body Skincare & Teeth and I'll work through my facial skincare, makeup and hair care routines as well.

4.) After my shower, I make sure to dry off good, using pressure to eliminate any extra dry skin I may have missed by brushing and exfoliating. I then apply either an all natural lotion (like Pacifica's Coconut Nectar) or Alba Botanica's tanning cream if I'm vacationing or have a big event and want to look bronzed. You can also use a little coconut oil or Vitamin E on extra dry areas.

5.) I finish by applying an all natural-deoderant (Honest makes a spray, or I use a aluminum-free roll on from Sprouts that works really well. Then I do a mani/pedi with safe nail polishes and Burts Bees cuticle creme. I find my nail colors at Sprouts or Whole Foods, the ones that are safe & approved for pregnancy are the ones I usually go for and they come in a wide array of vibrant colors!

TOOTH CARE

With a hubby in dental school, oral hygiene is always a topic in our home. Below are the steps I take to ensure the best and most natural tooth care.

1. Floss, floss, floss. After each meal do a quick floss. At night is when I spend a lot of time flossing really well.

2.) Oil pulling. Before I brush my teeth I oil pull for 10-20 minutes in the morning before my shower. For my full story on oil pulling, click here. I give an honest review on what I believe it does and doesn't do (for me, everyones different.)

3.) After oil pulling I brush really well. My hubs gets great deals on electric toothbrushes at dental conventions and I love how easy they make the tooth cleaning process. My top picks for healthy toothpastes are the Honest Company Toothpaste and Toms of Maine. I'm unfortunately allergic to something in Tom's, and my mouth gets tingly, and not in the good way. So I stick with Honest or the baking soda plain version of Colgate. As that one is always easiest to find when I'm traveling. I would like to try the natural clays or plain baking soda - but I'm working my way up to being that earthy, haha.

4.) I also steer clear of sugar, I only drink water and natural herbal teas, I don't ever consume tap water and I schedule my regular dental cleanings.

I would LOVE to hear your skin & teeth care routines. Do you have any special tips on staying clean & natural? I'd love to hear it i the comments below.

Or if you have any questions regarding my routine or products I use, leave those too!

Ugh you are so on top of everything! I have to admit, I'm not the best with my beauty routine. I've been so lazy lately that I have been going to bed without washing my face, which is a sin, I know!!! This post made me realize I need to start creating more time to take care of myself. Thank you!

Chelsea,

I use to be like that too! But once I started forcing myself, haha, I saw the benefits and now it makes me eager and glad to do these things!! And I use to go to bed every night with makeup on. My sister, whos a makeup artist, would always yell at me and it finally stuck. haha

A friend of mine was telling me how much she loves oil pulling! What an interesting part of the routine! I tried it once...but wasn't sure about it. I need to remember to try again sometime.

Lavender sugar scrub sounds amazing! I'm going to have to hit up Trader Joes for some of that!

Yes! It's amazing! And I love opting for sugar scrubs over salt in case I cut myself shaving or have any abrasions - it doesn't sting :)

Wow! What a great post...so many helpful tips on great products! I was actually looking for a better deodorant to try. I'm currently using Toms and feel it doesn't always work the best. I also tried oil pulling for a month because I had a sensitive tooth, it helped tremendously. I need to get back into the routine again:-) Thanks for sharing!

Andele, beautiful name! And thanks for stopping by and your kind words. Yeah, I'm not a big fan of Toms for a few reasons and it took me trying quite a few before I landed on one that I felt really worked for me.

Great post! I also use the safest, "cleanest" personal care products. I love Andalou Probiotic Cleansing Milk. It's the best face wash I've ever used. It is completely free of harmful chemicals and it's gluten-free which is a must for me. I also use Juice Beauty's face products which are great. For toothpaste, I like Kiss My Face sensitive, whitening gel. I was worried when I switched to all natural products that I would give up efficacy but I just haven't found that to be the case with the exception of anti-perspirant. I do miss my Mitchum... Following you on FB.

Jasmine,
Just adding in a few minutes a night to floss when you brush, rinse your face and moisturize is a great place to start. :)

I'm not sure if they ship to where you are but I know you can find them online as well. They make an extensive line of a lot of great stuff :)

Great natural care tips. I keep saying I am going to commit to dry brushing, but haven't made the plunge yet!

Lori,

Thanks for your kind words! :) I love dry brushing. I picked my dry brush up at Home Goods (they also sell them at beauty stores, places like Bed Bath and Beyond and I think Target even carries some sometimes) - make sure to use circular motions or straight swift strokes brushing towards your heart :)

about

Nosh & Nurture was born of this journey I am on to better the health of myself, my family and those around me.  What started as a simple compilation of recipes has grown to a all-around lifestyle journal with ways to incorporate organic products into your home, pantry and beauty cabinet.  I also include stories on pregnancy, new motherhood, travel, Proverbs 31 marriage, and spiritual health, as I am a Christian who couldn't do any of this without my Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. For more of my story you can click here.

All recipes are gluten-free and dairy-free with a lot of soy-free, grain-free, sugar-free options.
