Say goodbye to beachy waves and bed head, this summer it is all about hair straightened to perfection. Runways around the world are featuring designers who are opting for this classic look for summer 2014, and with the tools and products available today, you no longer need to visit the salon to attain smooth strands. Before we introduce you to the new must-haves in your beauty arsenal, there are a few tips to ensure hair health. Straightening hair on a consistent basis can lead to damage, so we recommend only washing your hair every other day to leave some natural protective oils intact. Using the recommended products below, along with the heating tools, will not only elongate the life of the tools, but of your hair as well. Now, onto this quick and easy process with our new beauty BFF’s. It all starts with a little lather. Your shampoo and conditioner choices start the foundation for the perfect end result. Using a smoothing shampoo that cleanses, while weightlessly smoothing frizzy hair, with help to improve texture and leave your hair manageable. A good choice is EverSleek Intense Smoothing Shampoo. After your shower, towel dry your hair to ready it for your ultimate frizz fighter. We recommend going one of two ways. First, you can opt for a smoothing balm such as Hemp Straightening Balm. When applied to problem areas throughout the hair, it helps tame frizz. The alternative is an oil base serum such as Moroccan Oil’s Glimmer Shine Spray. When applied to damp hair, this weather-resistant formula helps keep hair smooth and sleek in damp or dry environments. It makes a great choice for when you are traveling and are unsure of weather conditions. With both these products, you will want to apply a little at a time, so you do not weigh your hair down, and you will want to brush through your tamed, damp locks with a good brush. Not all brushes are created equal, just as if you would use a round brush to create volume, you will want to opt for a good paddle brush for straight locks. The TIGI Professional large paddle brush is a great choice. Its tourmaline-infused pins emit ions that seal each cuticle for stronger, shiner and static-resistant hair. Any product or tool that can cut down on static is crucial in hair straightening 101. Next, you are ready to dry. The CHI Air Pro Expert Ceramic Hair Dryer is a good choice with its infrared heat technology. Again, this simply means that it produces negative ions to prevent humidity and the aforementioned dreaded static. Its ceramic coils also keep the temperature regulated at all times for even styling. Use your paddle brush, along with your blow dryer, to dry hair completely. Before using your straightener, you need to prep and protect your hair from heat damage. To do so, choose a flat iron spray that is made for extreme heat protection. Our choice is the Giovanni 2Chic Brazilian Keratin & Argan Oil Flat Iron Styling Mist. It is a dual-smoothing complex made from plant-sourced protein so it is gentle on your tresses. Now that you are protected, it is time to straighten up! Using a ceramic plated straightener piece out hair in small sections so that you are not raking over strands multiple times. For fine hair, it is recommended to straighten one-inch sections, and for thicker hair, half-inch sections. The TRESemme Salon Professional Ceramic Styler heats to over 200 degrees for salon quality performance and features three heat settings for various hair types. It also features an auto shut off after 72 minutes, which is a great feature for any girl who is rushed in the mornings. To top off the look, we recommend a good finishing spray. A high-shine glossing mist will help keep fly-aways at bay, and will deliver a reflective, lightweight veil, boosting your shine factor. You can apply by lightly misting over hair, or by spraying into palms and detail with your fingertips. We love the shine factor of Bumble and Bumble’s BB Shine On Spray. Last but not least, a good product to have on hand is a long-lasting hair masque. Not for everyday use, this masque can be applied from time to time to help tame hair and control frizz. The Keratase Relax Slim Masque reduces hair volume by 50%, eases detangling and provides nutrition and softness to hair. It is a good investment for those who have thick, unruly hair and are seeking silky smooth straight locks for summer. Now that your beauty cabinet is stocked with the right tools, you can be confident in styling your hair, and saving time and money, without visiting the salon.

During the scorching hot days of summer, our thoughts wander to the cool breeze and sparkling waters of the ocean. Millions will flock to beaches around the world, laying out their towels to sunbathe, participate in a weekend game of sand volleyball or take on the surf on boards and water toys. However, some will be partaking in all of these various activities… in the buff. Whether you are comfortable baring all, or are just curious and want to cross something daring and new off your bucket list, the following list of nude beaches is the best of the best when it comes to privacy and breathtaking scenery. Little Beach, Maui, Hawaii – Little Beach, located on the island of Maui, is deemed an “unofficial clothing-optional beach”. Although sunbathing nude is illegal in Hawaii, the law has not been enforced on this isolated strand in years. Surrounded by volcanic rock, high shrubbery and driftwood, it is secluded from the eyes of those in surrounding areas. A beautiful beach to visit, it is also a great place for whale watching and body surfing. Red Beach, Crete, Greece – The name originates from the red rust color of this beaches sand, which makes this a truly beautiful picturesque locale with the stunning cobalt blue water contrasting. A naturist favorite, this beach, as well as the resort that sits upon it, allows nudity throughout (except for the dining room where clothing must be worn). The sand is coarse so sunbathers are cautioned to lie on towels when sunbathing (ouch!). The beach also features ancient caves to check out if you’re feeling adventurous and a coffee bar. Samurai Beach, Australia – Samurai, a half-mile stretch of white sand beach, is home to the annual naked beach Olympics and nudist picnic. You can participate in egg and spoon races, sack races, and body painting competitions, among other events. The location itself is beautiful and private, but make sure you pack plenty of sunscreen. Above Australia, you will find the thinnest areas of the ozone layer. Praia do Pinho, Brazil – Rio may have made the skimpy G-string bikini popular, but if you head south you will be expected to cover even less, and by less, we mean nothing at all. Known as the “clothing not optional’” locale, tourists from around the world flock to this private stretch of beach to bare all. Unaccompanied males are not allowed on the beach without a female friend or a membership to the International Naturist Federation. If you plan to make a weekend out of it, the beach has an inn and ocean view cabins nearby. Just think of how light you would have to pack. Saline Beach, St. Barts – One of the hottest of the hot spots, this sizzling beach is home to A-List stars and the rich and famous. When stars want to bare all, secluded from the peering eyes of the paparazzi, they head to this long stretch of sand on the posh islands southern coast. A word of caution, the winds here can get quite rough which can cause rough swimming conditions. While some may find the idea of hitting the beach au naturel embarrassing or too extreme, those that support the naturist movement express that they love to live life exactly how they were born. Next time you want to hit the beach, you have got a choice to make… bathing suit or birthday suit? A benefit to the latter, no tan lines. Just something to think about. By Mandi Pimental
Canadian born beauty, Italia Ricci, is no stranger to the spotlight. Getting her big break as an actress in the film American Pie Beta House at just twenty-one, Ricci has proven, role after role, that she is here to stay. Having appeared in hit television series such as How I Met Your Mother, House, Greek and her recurring role in the Comedy Central series Secret Girlfriend, Ricci is about to embark on a new and exciting journey. Premiering in June, Ricci will star as ‘April’ in the ABC Family series, Chasing Life, setting off a new chapter in this rising stars career. In ‘Chasing Life’ you play April, a young journalist who is trying to balance work, family and love, all while dealing with the tragic news that you have a terminal illness. How did you prepare for such a complex role? At first, I wanted to do all of the research that I could and know everything there was to know about the type of Leukemia that April has. But after reading the script a few times over, it occurred to me that April doesn’t have any of that knowledge. I decided to learn about it as April did so that I wasn’t anticipating how April was going to feel or act before it was written. Also, I trust the writers completely. They have teams of doctors, researchers, and cancer fighters working with them to figure out how to have April handle each step of the journey. When it came time to deal with chemo, I met some amazing warriors who helped me understand what it was like for them, and that was so incredibly helpful for more than just my work. What has been the biggest challenge of taking on the role of ‘April’ and what has been the biggest reward thus far? The most rewarding moments are hearing how the show has reached out and given a voice to people who felt they needed one, and not just for people dealing with an illness. There’s so much more going on in the show that people will relate to, and when fans reach out and let you know that they feel represented, it gives me goose bumps every time. The biggest challenge is how I feel when I come home and remind myself that I’m not sick. It hurts that I get to turn it off when so many people can’t. The show revolves around the serious topic of cancer, which affects so many people today. What do you hope that viewers will take away from April’s story? I hope viewers apply what is going on in the show to life with a broad stroke. Never give up. No matter what someone is dealing with in their world, it only controls your life as much as you let it. You have all of the power; you still make the decisions. It’s okay to make the wrong ones sometimes because we’re human. Just surround yourself with good people and you can get through more than you think you can. We are all stronger than we ever imagine. Many actors transition into directing or producing, is this a path you see yourself taking? Do you have any personal ambitions that are still unattained? I can see myself producing one day. I don’t see myself directing—I have way too many control issues for that. I’d be a nightmare director. I’m pretty happy to have achieved what I have at this point, but of course there are other personal milestones I’m excited for down the road, like having a family. What is your favorite summer vacation destination and what is your one must-have summer fashion item? My backyard. We live in LA where it’s always summer. I love my pool, my fruit trees, my dogs, and my friends. And a white flowing maxi dress, hands down. Speaking of fashion, we adore your style and your complexion is simply flawless. Can you share your beauty regiment? I always wear sunscreen. When I’m outside in the sun, I’m wearing at least SPF 90. What is your weekend style, and what do you like to wear on your down time? Any favorite designers? It depends on my plans for the weekend. If I don’t have to leave my house, I’m in my robe all weekend long. If I have things to do, I’ll pull it together. I actually just started wearing pieces from LUBLU by Kira Plastinina. Her stuff fits me so well and is incredibly comfortable. Who are your biggest influences when it comes to your acting career? Did you look up to or study anyone in particular growing up? I didn’t study anyone in particular. I was pretty impressionable and would watch a movie and want to be that character. I would pretend to be like them for a day or two until I saw the next show or movie and then move on to that. I think I’m still like that a little bit. I’m influenced by a different performance every time I watch something new. One constant influence is Kate Hudson; she’s got a sparkle to her that you see in every character. She’s also got crazy range—rocker indie films, jazzy musical, rom-com, horror, you name it. Actually, I remember watching her movie A Little Bit of Heaven the day before my screen test for Chasing Life. If you could work with anyone, actor or director, who would it be? What is it about his or her work that inspired you? I’d love to work with a ton of people. I learn so much from everyone I’ve ever worked with. The set is such an inspiring environment, even with people I didn’t necessarily get along with. You learn to be patient and professional when you really just want to scream. As of right now, I’m so impressed by Dane DeHaan. I think he’s wildly talented and also has this magnetism in his performances that paralyzes you from looking away when he’s on screen. Having broken into film at just twenty-one, what advice do you have for aspiring actors who have made the move to Hollywood? Don’t give up. I was ready to go back to law school and say that I gave Hollywood my best shot, but my family in L.A. believed in me and supported me and kept faith in me when I was spent. I ended up staying because of them, and I am so grateful. Do you have any future projects in the work that you can speak on at this time? I shot a Sony Affirm film called The Remaining last year that is due to come out this fall. It’s a 100% religiously accurate thriller that recounts how the world would end, according to the bible. I play Allison, the maid of honor at her best friend’s wedding when the end comes. It’s a movie that tells the story of a group of best friends as they navigate the challenging journeys of faith, love, and salvation at the end of it all. RUNWAY TEENS GOSSIP CORNER: Fresh Faces & Hot Places
By Mandi Pimental Gossip Corner brings you up to date on the Hollywood scene and the stars that play in it. This issue we are talking hot places and fresh faces. In January, after the holiday season of shopping and high-end gift exchange, (another Prada bag perhaps or a new winter white Bentley?) stars will leave tinsel town to visit the beautiful city of Park City, Utah for this nation’s biggest film festival, Sundance. We are loving some of the sneak peeks of what will be shown, as some of our squeaky clean favorites are getting a little dirty in gritty new roles. Kate Bosworth will be returning to the shore in Big Sur, a film based on the 1962 novel by literary icon Jack Kerouac. It is a deep, inspiring film that seems promising and with Bosworth being a fashion favorite, Runway Teen is anxious to see the 60’s styling of the film. Even darker is the role that heartthrob Shia Lebouf takes on, starring in Charlie Countryman. The film finds two lost souls on a dangerous adventure through Eastern Europe evoking suspense at every turn, and of course there is romance interlaced throughout. When the stars are not taking in a film, they will be hitting the slopes and we look forward to bringing you an update on the hot hookups and even hotter fashions of Sundance. The glitterati will also soon be flocking to Las Vegas as Britney Spears begins her residency. With her new album, simply titled Britney Jean, set to hit shelves on her birthday, December 3rd, she promises the long-awaited eighth studio release will be the most personal and heartfelt album to date. Only time will tell if this is the true comeback the world has expected from Ms. Spears, though we know no matter what happens (another husband, another baby, dare I say another crazy makeover?) she will put on a sizzling hot show in Sin City. In other pop star news, Miley Cyrus (we know, we know, the Miley Cyrus thing has been done to death lately since the VMAs appearance and the slew of headlines that followed, it’s just one more we promise), has redesigned her website, and we just had to comment on it because it is like a train wreck you can’t not look at. If you haven’t yet paid it a visit I must first warn you, it’s like taking a glimpse into her mixed up little mind, but for entertainment purposes it’s worth a visit. A few features: she makes out with herself in a mirror, tour dates are outlined in marijuana leaves, animated photos show her grabbing herself, and other disturbing images abound… it’s all enough to make you go hmmm and it makes you really wonder, is this what girls today are inspired by? For the future of womankind, and for fashion, we really hope not. Luckily, some fresh faces are showing young women how to be poised, sophisticated and classically beautiful. The Sherri Hill Spring 2014 fashion show showcased beautiful dresses for the upcoming prom season and two starlets shined among the crowd. Kendal Jenner, who walked alongside sister Kylie during part of the show, and Sadie Robertson, whose family recently hit it big as the stars of Duck Dynasty, are two ladies that we think deserve the spotlight they are currently basking in the glow of. New York Daily News recently reported that Ms. Jenner is mixed up in a sex tape scandal, though her camp has squashed the rumors, and with the bright future ahead of her, we hope to see her continue on the path of fashion and philanthropy that she is doing so well with. As for Ms. Robertson, she stands firm in her faith and expresses the appreciation she has for the success of their television show and that her family has a platform where they can speak about their values. As for the teen demographic, Sadie started her own foundation that is broadcast on YouTube through a series of videos titled “We Are Different” that inspires teens to stand firm in their faith. It is inspiring to see teens making a difference in Hollywood. And though it is not groundbreaking news we had to add this tip, all budding fashionistas take note; Khloe Kardashian recently gave her expert advice on taking the perfect selfie. “Keep the camera above you, below gives you a double chin.” Thanks K, we will remember that. Until next time! by Mandi Pimental
Bram Hoover is a multi-talented actor and screenwriter who, is his career thus far, has acted in both film and television and is the writer behind this seasons hot new football film, 23 Blast. 23 Blast follows the true life story and hardships of teen football star Travis Freeman, and Hoover lets us in on why he chose to bring this story to life. We also spoke to Hoover about fitness, fashion and what it is that makes a guy feel sexy. You wrote, and are currently starring in the film 23 Blast. That is quite an achievement! Can you tell us a little bit about Jerry Baker, the character you play? Jerry is a kid from a small town who knows how to have a good time, doesn’t take crap from anyone, and is always there for his friends. Especially his best friend Travis Freeman. In the film, Travis goes from a normal, healthy teenager, to losing his eyesight overnight. Jerry is suddenly lost without his right-hand man. As time passes, Jerry is one of the voices of reason that helps Travis find his way. And in doing so, finds himself. What inspired you to take this incredible story of high school student Travis Freeman and adapt it to film? I grew up in Corbin, Kentucky where the story takes place. And I played football with the real Travis Freeman. So, I got to experience Travis' incredible story first hand. The film focuses on the challenges of Freeman going blind at a pivotal time in his life. In your personal life what is your most valued sense, and why? It’s really tough to choose just one, but I would have to say my sense of taste. I love eating all kinds of foods, sweets too. I could not imagine not being able to taste all the wonderful foods on this earth. The film revolves around football, are you into sports yourself? Yes, I am into all sports, but football is my favorite by far. I played football since I was 8 years old, all the way through high school, and a little in college. I'm actually in my High School Hall of Fame (if that means anything). Nowadays, I just sit around on my couch and watch all I can on TV. You have been working in film and television for quite a few years now. Have you always aspired to write your own projects? Or was it something you were inspired to do after you started your work in Hollywood? I think I've always been a storyteller, even as a kid. That's what we do in film and television, or any art for that matter. But, after acting for a few years, I realized that there was more fulfillment, and sometimes more control being a writer/director. Solely as an actor, you're only able to control and contribute to the story through your character. But, as a writer, and/or director, you have your hands in the whole story. All of the characters, not just one. That was more enticing to me. Prior to 23 Blast, what has been your most memorable acting role? I would say my role on "Dirt" on FX a few years ago. I had a pretty memorable line that actually made it on "Talk Soup" that week. My friends and family back home still talk about it when I see them. You are in extremely good shape. Can you share your fitness routine? I have gotten really into yoga. I love how it makes me feel afterward. I feel energized and happy. I try to swim or bike a few times a week as well too. But my favorite form of exercise is playing basketball. Your Twitter profile alludes to the fact you enjoy donuts. Who doesn’t love a donut? What is your food philosophy? Strict dieter, everything in moderation, or more of an “I do what I want” mentality? My food philosophy is I pretty much eat whatever I want. For now anyway. Who knows how my metabolism will be down the road, but for now, it's still pretty good. And I have a huge sweet tooth, and yes, donuts and ice cream are two of my weaknesses. Let’s talk fashion. We have seen you in an array of styles, from sporty and casual to suits on the red carpet. What is your typical everyday style? My typical everyday style is to try to be as comfortable as possible, with a cool pair of sneakers on. If I could, I would wear sneakers, gym shorts, and a t-shirt every day. But, I also love to get dressed up in a suit every now and then. When you're casual a majority of the time, it's nice to get all suited and booted. Makes me feel sexy, confident. Do you have a favorite go-to designer for special events and appearances? My favorite go-to designer right now is anything Hugo Boss. I love their stuff and it really fits me well too. Sydney Park Interview for Runway Teen Summer 2014
By Mandi Pimental Holding the title as the “youngest comedian to ever perform at the Hollywood Improv”, actress Sydney Park came out of the gates swinging. Making her television debut on That’s So Raven, Park has found her niche in an industry that others take years to master. With credits that include appearances in Entourage, Hannah Montana, and Gary Unmarried, Park is now starring as Gabby in Nick At Nite’s Instant Mom alongside Tia Mowry-Hardrict and Michael Boatman. This young star talks to us about beauty products, playing a teenage big sister and why she loves being a California girl. You have an impressive resume for being such a young actress and it has been said you were the youngest person to perform stand-up at the Hollywood Improv. Have you just always known this is what you wanted? In preschool, I took ballet and every night I would dress up in my tutu and make my parents sit down in the living room to watch me perform. I would say, “I have a performance, you gotta take me seriously!” I’ve just always been an entertainer and I knew that someday I would do it professionally. You have worked primarily in the comedy genre, having roles in Hannah Montana, That’s So Raven and now starring in your new project, Instant Mom. You have also played in a recurring role as Ellie on the popular TV crime drama CSI: NY. Do you prefer comedic projects to dramatic roles? How do you decide what projects you will take? I started out as a stand-up comedian at the age of six, so comedy is where it all began. Even though I’m mostly known for doing comedy, I really love drama! I can see myself doing gritty roles in the future, yet still doing comedy. I love it all! On Instant Mom, you play Gabby Phillips, one of three children whose dad meets and marries a 25-year old party girl. That sounds like a fun concept for a show, what has been your favorite part of playing this role? Gabby Phillips is very similar to who I am in real life! I love the fact that I get to incorporate different parts of my personality into the role of Gabby. It also doesn’t hurt that I get to work with Tia Mowry-Hardrict who is my childhood idol! Every day on set is just loads of laughter and fun! On the show, Gabby has two little brothers. Do they act like true little brothers on set? Any fun pranks or stories? I love my little boys! Damarr, Tylen, and I have our “brother-sister” moments but I love them and we always have so much fun together. There are many stories to share from set and I will tell you that a majority of them have something to do with farts. We’re gassy siblings, what can I say? On Twitter you proclaim “LA is everything”, so, what is your favorite part of being a California girl? What do you do on your down time? And any fun plans for summer? In my life, Los Angeles is everything because this is where it all began for me. The opportunities are out here and c’mon, you just can’t beat the weather. When I have free time I always make an effort to hang out with my friends, read, exercise, and even draw if I’m feeling it! This summer I’ll be working on another season of Instant Mom and I’m super excited. Gotta make time for the beach on the weekends of course! Your skin is flawless! What three summer beauty products can you not live without? Well thank you for the compliment! I always make sure to use my Smith’s Rosebud Salve lip balm for the dry weather. Also, NARS Lip Pencils are the bomb because you can get your favorite colors in matte, velvet, or satin and it lasts! Last but not least is my Proactiv Renewing Cleanser that I wash my face with twice a day. It has benzoyl peroxide crystals that target breakouts while keeping your skin clean and radiant Fashion is a huge part of the culture of LA, who is your favorite designer to wear on the red carpet? I am such a fan of Ted Baker! The designs are always classy, yet fun and flirty! I love how he always incorporates beautiful, bold colors and I think the clothes are timeless. As a fashion icon to young girls around the world, do you have any advice for dressing for the summer season? My main advice is to try and be as comfortable as possible! You want to avoid the high-heels in the heat and wear something funky like sneakers, strappy sandals, or espadrilles. Also, step out of your comfort zone and rock some floral and bright colors! We agree with the brights and florals! What is up next for you? Do you have any other projects in the works that you can talk about? And where can fans keep up with what you are doing? I’ve been working on Nickelodeon’s Awesomeness TV, Nickelodeon’s new Nick App where I’m in a number of sketches, and I’ll be on an upcoming episode of The Thunderman’s. I’m always doing sketches, so look out for more videos coming soon. Also, I’ll be filming the second season of Instant Mom all summer! Keep up with my daily life on Instagram: @heysydneypark and Twitter: @iamsydneypark Alberta Ferretti
The Ferretti show sparkled with feminine oceanic beauty. Delicate fabrics moved with grace against a backdrop of cerulean. Sequins on a few of the ensembles glittered in the light as a mermaids scales would glitter against the setting sun. Ferretti’s imaginative line shows true creativity. One of the more delicate pieces was an ethereal pearl white gown that displayed a sheer and intricate beaded bodice. One of the more daring ensembles on the catwalk featured black satin shorts and an organza top with black lace overlays covering the models chest. BLUGIRL The runway for the BluGirl Spring/Summer show appeared as a group of sophisticated, and slightly provocative, women on their way to a garden tea party. With floral crowns and straw hats a top their heads the models were adorned in a sweet mixture of femininity. Sweaters paired with floral knee-length skirts and sweet ruffle-accented dresses cinched at the waist with bows, one might believe them all to be sugary sweet. On the contrary, BluGirl always shows us that a woman can have edge and with the overt sheerness of the pieces, paired with exotic animal printed notations; we are shown that the naughty pairs well with the nice. DSQUARED Female power dominated the DSquared catwalk. In a word the show could be summed up as simply as, attitude. Leather, chunky gold and silver jewelry and police style caps rounded out the show and tops were paired with skirts and shorts that sat high on the models thighs. Leather gloves and motorcycle jackets added a hint of raw masculinity in with the power of pure female sexuality. Following in the ever-popular animal print trend, black and white leopard dresses paired with leather hearts, were seen throughout the collection. Finally, the pièce de résistance was the all leather floor length dress with the buckled waistline, gold side zipper and dramatic gold neckpiece. Fendi The strength of geometric shapes and patterns of the Fendi line felt ahead of its time. A form of cubism in its own right the pieces were color blocks of mixed fabrics including the designers take on “summer leather.” An impressive note is that the leather is seamless and makes for a light wear. The multiple lengths seen through the jackets and dresses are “designed to have your eyes drawn into the pieces,” as opposed to being drawn to them, the designer goes on to say. Save for a few hints of melon and teal in a high-waisted short ensemble the lines main color palettes falls in black, icy blues and warm caramels and yellows. The show ended with an explosive punch of color from the elaborate light reflecting stoned dress with capelet inspired shoulders. Just Cavalli Trending this season is a designers love to tie in oceanic inspiration to this seasons collections, and JustCavalli is no exception. Except this line isn’t about simplistic beauty in mermaids and crystal blue waters on the shore, with Cavalli’s line we get to dive a little deeper to see the exotic creatures of the sea that Cavalli counts as one of his inspirations for the pieces in his line. The beautiful bright hues of sapphire and lime can be seen in a sheer off the shoulder top and mini-dress. The models hairstyles reflect a refreshing, clean, beach wave feel and their natural make-up feels sun kissed with shimmer around their eyes. In addition to the tropical fish, Cavalli listed a trip to India as inspiration and wanted to capture the beauty in the exotic flora, which gives us the color rich drop-waist dresses, and multi-hued foot wear. Keeping to his love of the hip-hop style his lines are not constricting and play well with the models movement. Prada Miuccia Prada definitely brought something unexpected to the catwalk this season. The show started with boxy, almost space age, designs with largely oversized tops in black and deep green, paired with clam diggers, long shorts and metallic booties. As the show transpired it began to tell a story, showing vintage Japanese silhouettes, Geisha inspired looks, and a more traditional color palette as it progressed. Kimono’s and Japanese footwear appeared accentuated by florals and pops of deep red. The show ended with toned down neutral satin pieces in blush pink, tying the show’s theme together nicely and proving once again that Prada knows how to tell a story through fashion. Versace Donatella stepped away, if only for a moment, from gothic bondage and moved into simpler and softer pieces, mixed with a little Greek Mythology, for her latest line. “I wanted to challenge myself to do fluidity and lightness...” she stated in regards to the latest in her fashion empire, and with the miniscule size of a few of the ensembles, she has done just that. Dainty high-cut, lace-embellished shorts paired with cropped tops make a perfect addition to any jet-setting girls’ summer wardrobe, and her drop waisted brightly hued dresses are reminiscent of a fabulous beach soiree. That is, if you do not mind Medusa joining the party. While the show started with simple lines and circular lace cutouts, the rest of the line hinted at warrior chic, featuring Medusa’s head in print as well as on metal buttons. The gowns intricate details were worthy to be worn by Greek goddesses or warrior princesses. Leave it to Donatella to “lighten her style”, only to give us something even more beautiful and breathtaking. Gucci Gucci’s line takes us back to classic Italy. It is purely Rome in the 60’s and 70’s where women do not shy away from head-to-toe hues in bright pinks and cobalt. The show started strong with a bright pink belted tunic and trouser ensemble, paired with slicked back hair and oversized classics reminiscent of the time. Graphic patterns in similar hues and lighter fabrics followed until the show transitioned into classic black and white. A beautiful, pure white, deep V-neck, floor length gown featured billowing ruffled sleeves and rounded out the show with beautiful dramatic femininity. By Mandi Pimental
London Fashion Week presented us with a diverse, and absolutely lovely, mix of trends for Spring 2014 both on and off the runway. The street style was an eclectic blend of the trends we saw throughout the designers’ displays on the runway and it stood to prove that the London fashionistas were truly tuned in to what is going to be popular come winter thaw. The first of five, of the most popular trends of the season, were separates that shine. Crystal-adorned dresses and bodysuits, a plethora of metallic materials and mirrored embellishments will be available to dress up many wardrobes. Tom Ford was a fan of using sequins, Topshop used broken-mirror inspired additions on sundresses and Christopher Kane opted for shimmering fabrics for his collection. Tadashi Shoji presented a dress comprised of pure white sequins, accented with feathers and Marissa Webb showed us a favorite in a champagne metallic high waist skirt. The designers this season backed up our belief that a little sparkle is always a good idea. Feminine florals are always a classic spring trend and have made their return for 2014. Opting for a palette of lighter, pastel hues, fashion house Burberry Prorsum displayed beautiful florals on belts, trenches and delicate tops. Mulberry opted for a more retro palette with oversized florals in bright orange and navy. BCBG and Rebecca Taylor used a rainbow palette for their floral pieces. When paired with dainty flats and simplistic jewelry, you can incorporate floral pieces into your wardrobe through skirts, sundresses, capris or tops. One way to wear a feminine floral skirt is to pair it with a boyfriend-styled, button up. Bringing us to our third spring trend, boy meets girl fashion. Mixing in masculine touches with feminine pieces, designers showed ability to fuse the two sides together seamlessly. Tailored, nipped-waist skirts pair well with boxy-shouldered tops, while delicate camisoles couple with slouchy boyfriend pants. The key is making sure to keep it balanced. Designer Matthew Williamson paired basic tees with flirty skirts, while Henry Holland put models in trucker hats and lace skirts to lend an edge. Alexander Wang had models strutting down the runway in what could have been mistaken for their boyfriend’s pajamas, though we rather loved it, because what isn’t sexier and more comfortable than your guy’s pjs? The last trend to get you through from spring to fall is pure edge. Dark and avant-garde pieces, sharp edges, deep folds and deeper shades such as blacks and browns have made a place for themselves in spring fashion this season. Leather jackets can be worn with lighter undergarments to incorporate heavier fabrics without being overly layered. David Koma, with his line inspired by Japanese samurais, incorporated warrior-esque pieces to represent tough femininity. Tom Ford’s collection also represented a stronger woman with body conscious lace and leather pieces, and though the house of Erdem incorporated florals, they did so in a darker palette of blacks and deep blues. J Mendel created a daring black netted dress with strategically placed cuts, proving that lace and mesh make the perfect dress fabric choices for evening. Do not be afraid to mix and match the trends. Pair floral leggings with an oversized rock tee for a bold combination, or try a metallic dress with a leather jacket for a vibe that hints at retro eighties, which designer Ryan Lo could appreciate this year with his 80’s inspired line-up. With a palette of such a wide array of colors and fabrics, the possibilities are endless. And remember, spring is a time of renewal and creation. Create a new look that is uniquely you, by gaining inspiration by the amazing fashion seen throughout London. GOSSIP CORNER – Summer 2014
by Mandi Pimental Runway Teen is back with another round of juicy gossip and this issue is all about love, marriage and baby carriages. Summer love is in the air and romances are blooming. Some new and some not so new, we are seeing many relationships being rekindled this season. During Coachella weekend, it seems that The Beibs and Selena Gomez may have been getting cozy once again. An eyewitness stated that prior to Bieber's surprise performance the two were seen holding hands and walking together. The question of “are they or aren’t they?” has been asked as often as the question, “can Beiber make a strong comeback after his recent indiscretions?” We are hoping so, for his sake, and his millions of Beliebers worldwide that are rooting for him. While we are pretty sure the topic of Jelena being on-again, off-again is getting tired, one hot couple who we’d like to see sizzle this summer is Kendall Jenner and Harry Styles. Also reported to have re-sparked their flame during the music fest, after going months without connecting, the One Direction star and reality starlette were spotted holding hands while enjoying a musical performance. Nothing like young love in the desert. One relationship that may have cooled, while others were heating up, was the friendship between Selena and the Jenner sisters. Photographed together through the music fests entirety, Gomez returned home only to unfollow all of her friends and connections on Instagram, claiming that people she had been connecting with lately haven’t been the best influences and that she wants to just focus on “good things, like music and church.” We are all about positive vibes, and good influence on young stars, so if she is taking a stand on doing what is right for her then we say “Go Selena!” In wedding news, it is all about the Kardashian/West wedding plans. While they reportedly privately got married stateside in May, their lavish affair with friends and family is set to take place in France this summer. Inviting a modest number of just one-hundred guests, the wedding is sure to be a beautiful spectacle if we can expect it to be anything like her last televised nuptials. Reportedly having put three dresses on hold for the occasion, we cannot wait to see what the fashion star will debut her walk down the aisle in. This wedding is a first for West while it will be a third for the reality star. We are hoping third times a charm and that she is finally found her happily ever after. And of course, who doesn’t adore babies? Especially celebrity babies, with their off-the-wall monikers and their trendy baby gear. Expecting a bouncing baby girl soon is American Idol alum Kelly Clarkson. Photographed recently in Nashville, her adorable baby bump is growing by the day. While this baby is a first for the What Doesn’t Kill You singer, Britney Spears ex, Kevin Federline recently welcomed his sixth little one. Father to Kori, 13, and Kaleb, 10, with ex-girlfriend Shar Jackson, Sean, 8, and Jayden, 7, with Spears and Jordan, 2, with current wife Victoria Prince, their new daughter Peyton rounds out the clan nicely. Maybe he is trying to put together his own back-up dance team. Christina Aguilera has been trying to keep a low profile lately. Keeping her baby bump private, she stepped out in Manhattan recently with fiancé Matt Rutler and posted to a photo to her Instagram with a caption that read “Baby loves N.Y.C”. We can only assume that little baby girl Aguilera is going to have the most fashionable wardrobe, and we’d be lying if we said we aren’t slightly jealous of her soon-to-be lullaby serenades by her songstress mama. Last but not least, the adorableness that is Mila Kunis cannot go unmentioned. Expecting her first child with Two and a Half Men star Ashton Kutcher, Kunis is absolutely radiant. Also expecting a girl, Hollywood is about to see an influx of mini-starlet’s in the making. Anyone taking any bets on who will give their offspring the most outlandish names? We are hoping, for all children involved, it doesn’t get too out of hand. They do have to go through life with the name, after all. By: Mandi Pimental
Hair, for as long as we women have had it, has been our best accessory and, at times, our worst foe. It is constantly changing. I am not just talking about yours (and mine for that matter) on a daily basis. I am referring to the styles, the colors, and the popular lengths through time. Going back over fifty years, we can see how quickly trends change. Back in the fifties and sixties, we saw the dramatic beehive make a big statement, as well as feminine flips. Progressing into the seventies and eighties, we had Farrah debut her classic Charlie’s Angel blowout style that was ever popular for almost two decades. The motto also seemed to be “the bigger the better”, where stock in Aquanet and crimping irons surely soared. The nineties brought us edgier cuts and females were seen using more hair product to piece out shorter styles moving into more modern looks. Always looking ahead to the future, as we do in fashion, we work to try to improve upon all facets of what hair can be. Working with texture, thinking outside the proverbial color box, and bringing it all together to make it shine. Here you will find some tips to do just that as you get a glimpse into what spring 2013 will bring us in the way of hot styles according to Runway and some of the hottest names in fashion. The Deep Side Part Tools Needed: High heat flatiron, strong hold hairspray, fine toothcomb, small elastic or bobby pins. This low-maintenance look is sleek and dramatic in its own right. Start with your hair blown out and straightened stick straight (another trend making its comeback this season). You will be able to locate your own deep side part by lining it up with the outside of your eyebrow. If it feels unnatural, you may alternatively need to line it up with your brows natural arch. Using your comb, part your hair, bring it over, exposing your new part and comb smooth. Use hairspray to keep hair in place. Do not over-spray; just tame the hair that is wanting to fall away. You could also opt to use gel to give it a sleek and glam look for night. Pull hair tightly toward the back and secure with a bobby pin. You may also curl some soft waves in the hair hanging loose or secure in the back into a low small bun (pictured). The Low Down – Buns & Ponytails Tools Needed: A hairbrush and one small elastic. Hair wrap, pretty hair accessory or headband is optional. Low buns and low ponies are getting a lot of attention this season. Being featured on runways internationally, as well as taking the spotlight in the press and social media, this low-key look is easy for all hairstyles and is very versatile. As well as being easily dressed up with the ever-popular hair scarf, this look takes little to no product and is easy to touch up on the go. For the low pony: brush hair back and tie with elastic at the base of your neck. You can leave it messy if you prefer and add a little product to give it a beachy feel, or smooth it back for a sleeker look. For the low bun: Style hair into low ponytail and tease lightly so that it becomes voluminous. Next, use a small elastic to keep in place. Separate ponytail in two sections, top and bottom. Tease the upper half to give it more body. Create a small bun with the teased portion and secure by wrapping remaining un-teased hair around it. Secure with bobby pins. The Look That’s Making Waves Tools Needed: Hair dryer with diffuser, a surf spray, pick comb, hair wand, finishing crème To obtain the perfect beach wave you can do one of two things. Ride the waves on a board, soaking up the sun and salty sea air (that would definitely achieve said look). Or, if you are like me and reside in the desert or other non-beachfront locale, you can follow these simple steps to look as though you had been hanging ten all afternoon. After your shower, use a pick comb to smooth out hair. (Do not dry with towel!) Pat it dry and let it naturally fall where it may, this will help it to not frizz. When it is slightly still damp, apply a surf spray (Bumble and Bumble has a nice one) and work it through your hair, scrunching it with your hands. Using your hairdryers diffuser, dry it almost completely and use a heated hair wand to wrap selected pieces around the wand lightly. While piecing it out, lightly curl sections until your desired look is achieved. Finish with a light finishing crème to give it a more finished look without weighing the hair down. The Messy Braid Tools Needed: An elastic hair band, a light hold spray Start with a basic side braid; do not smooth the ends as you go, as you want to achieve the “messy look”, fly-aways are o.k. in this instance. Once the braid is completed, secure with elastic about an inch from the bottom and pull on the braids sides to create the “undone” look. Spray for added security and in those two simple steps you have a messy braid. |
