I haven't done many personal posts in a while, so I thought, "hey, today's a good as time as any." I'm still floating on cloud 9 since our Universal deal announcement and I'm loving school. As always, I have many irons in the fire, mainly because it's my nature and a little because my heart and soul is wanting a little one and I want, ok, I need to keep myself as busy as possible while we continue trying. Summer has been a blur so far, but exciting. Between putting out the Summer issue of Runway, class, the new record deal and freelancing, it hasn't left much time for a social life, but we try to make it a priority...
I've thought about how I'd feel on a day like today so many times I've lost count.
At the tender age of two years old I picked up my first microphone. It was my dad's real Shure mic, and it was heavy and metal, and I toted it around with me without a care in the world. It made me so happy. Performing, writing and singing became everything I was after I stepped on my first professional stage at sixteen. The hunger and passion was like a fire was ablaze inside me. A blessing and a curse. Lyrics moved me to tears, like ugly crying tears. Watching someone on stage, in their element gave me bone deep goose bumps. For years, music was my air and all I ever wanted, sometimes felt like the only thing I needed was to sign a big record deal and I'd find happiness. But God had a different plan. A beautiful, messy, twisty-turny plan for my life. One that would open me up to great adventures, soul-deep love, a path that brought me to a healthier way of living. And God knows how very much I needed that. But in His beautiful plans, things can come back around when you LEAST expect it. In 2010 I signed with NVE Records, an independent label in California. The Christ-loving, fiercely talented group of musicians that would become my family was more than I could have dreamed of when I found my label home. And we've worked diligently on and off through life's moments to create quality music and lasting relationships. Over the past five years, through highs and lows, music stopped being my one and only goal in life. It became one of my many passions. I am not music. And music is not me, and that's so much healthier. Music is a love. Music is a part of me. I am what makes me me. Who I am in Christ, the people that I love, my work not only as a musician, but as a journalist and a health activist, and the things I enjoy in life, all those beautiful parts create a unique woman. And I'm so glad that God orchestrated my journey this way, and changed my heart to see music as something I could appreciate. I am honored to announce that today, our label has signed with Universal Music Group for distribution, and I am now part of the NVE/Universal family. I am so proud of our CEO and my fellow labelmates who have taken this ride with me. And as a collective family have all brought us to this accomplishment today. May we give thanks to God continually through all of His blessings, and look to Him as we venture into this next step. |
